ADHD? What vitamin supplement should I be taking?
Also, do you know of any good reference material on this disorder? I’d like to stay away from the medication if at all possible. However, I’m not going to go on an organic diet or anything like that. Please don’t post comments concerning ways in which I can change my lifestyle. I want to know what vitamin supplements (Attention! Gels for instance) are recommended.

I have been looking for the same answer. The best info I have found so far is the research study “Outcome-Based Comparison of Ritalin Versus Food Supplement Treated Children With AD/HD” (see link). It found supplements to be equally effective as Ritalin! The article also lists all the supplements used. Now they were designed for children, so they might have to be a little different for adults, but I think that the basics are gonna be the same.
They used a multiple vitamin, a multiple mineral, phytonutrients, essential fatty acids and phospholipids, probiotics, and amino acids.
I think the important part is the tyrosine (which is turned into L-DOPA in the body, then into dopamine and then into norepinephrine – low levels or inefficient working of both those last ones are usually thought to cause AD/HD) and vitamins etc. That help the tyrosine synthesize in the body.
Hope that helps!
What Natural Vitamins & Minerals are people w/ ADD or ADHD Often Lacking?
I’m a 20-year-old w/ pretty severe AD-HD. I was in several accidents as a teen from inability to focus, until my dad allowed me to go on Adderall. Since I haven’t been in one accident since I was 17.
I am on a pretty high dose of adderall now & have come to feel that a lot of my focusing troubles, which have been visible since childhood, have to do w/ a poor diet, lack of exercise and such.
I am trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle and I’ve begun taking Folic Acid, Magnesium, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin C, & Fish Oil every day, but are there any other vitamins or minerals that would be good to add? Ones that will help in Focusing.
I’ve also been eating all organic, lean healthy foods & exercising 4 – 5 days a week. I used to exercise before a bit too much, but not with a good diet. I also haven’t had a soda in 4 months! 🙂 I feel much better & actually feel terrible when I put junky unhealthy food in my body.
Also I haven’t, but am planning on taking up meditation to develop focus.
I was wondering, as well, if there were any other techniques that would help develop focus.
Ideally I’d like to get off my adderall & have my own developed focus, or at LEAST get down from taking 50mgs of extended release each day.

What a great question!
I recommend the information by this guy: http://ultrawellnesscenter.com/7-Keys.aspx
I also strongly suggest the book “Spiritual Warfare” by Jerry Rankin: http://www.amazon.com/Spiritual-Warfare-Battle-Gods-Glory/dp/0805448802/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246177054&sr=8-1.
Sometimes struggling to focus and other mental problems can be a spiritual issue, rather than a physical one. This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
You can also buy this wonderful little booklet: http://www.amazon.com/Steps-Freedom-Christ-Booklet-Revision/dp/0830735860/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
Whatever the cause of your struggles, I hope you feel better soon!
